Gary Hirsch

Artist and improvisor

Spoken in English. Their words, as they said them.

I am so delighted by the idea that the only thing that is actually real is this exact moment.

And now this one, and now this one. And everything else is before and after.

That is so comforting.

It makes me think and wonder about what makes something real. Is it real when it's an idea? Or does it have to somehow manifest into another form for it to be real?

And are ideas enough?

I've been waking up every morning for the last few weeks with my head full of ideas. Ideas for making things. Ideas for doing things. All of them about action. None of them about not doing. And then when I get out of bed, I start doing. And for the first few hours of my morning, I'm making lists and I'm writing things and I'm making phone calls and I'm awful of action. And then right about end of morning into lunch, everything stops. And I took a deep breath, and I realized that I don't have to always do things to know that I'm alive.

But then I wake up the next morning and I've forgotten all of that. And it's time to start again.
