Development As Vulnerability

Spoken in English. Their words, as they said them.

Yeah, the This idea of development as polishing out emotions or making us impervious in some way or, you know, having us retreat into some mountaintop space where the world doesn't interfere with us.

I I'm sure that's very pleasant. I I don't know anybody who's done it. It. And and I no longer find it very appealing.

But the idea of development as this process of being able to take a perspective, however fleeting that perspective might be, and see what we can see from that perspective before, as you say, losing it. And, I'm plunging back into the tumult of our lives.

But with something richer, you go to the Grand Canyon and you have a beautiful experience. The Grand Canyon is extraordinary.

And then you leave there and you're not in the Grand Canyon anymore. But it's in you.

And I think development's like that. Right? We grow. We're able to take a perspective. We lose that perspective, but it's in us. It's changed us somehow. Art does that. A film, a novel, a sculpture.
